335i Turbo/Wastegate Problems (N54 Engine)

BMW 335 N54

I am having issues with one (or both) of my turbos. There is a rattling noise and the wastegate isn't dumping pressure any more. I have seen that BMW NorthAmerica (which does not include Canada) has extended the warranty on the turbos and wastegates to 8 years/82,000 miles (132,000 kms). BMW Canada acknowledges there is a problem but will not extend their warranty or recall any of the vehicles having this issue. The problem is specifically with vehicles with the N54 engine (135, 335, and 535 models).

This youtube video explains the problem and provides a very simple test to diagnose if it is your turbo's causing the noise.

This need to get some attention before BMW will do anything about it.:mad::mad:

The reason US 335i has the recall is due to a law suit in California.

I am pretty sure if we can get who are having same issue together we can file a complaint with the court. Transport Canada might not look into it.

I just told the repair guy at the dealer how the wastegate problem wasn't taken care of in Canada while I dropped off my car to to have the wastegate rattle repaird. It's only 7 years old but it has 84,000 miles. I have an extended warranty that should cover it no problem, but I'm surprised that the previous owner didn't have it taken care of.

And we do love our class action lawsuits down here. A lady in California sued the company that makes those 5-toe shoes for falsely advertising that they had health benefits. Now the company has to give refunds to anybody that wants one. I have a pair that I never wear, but I certainly didn't expect any health benefits from them. I probably won't ask for my money back. But I do want my wastegate rattle fixed.
