Kline Township supervisors say it's unlikely garbage fees will be raised over the next three years after opening bids and awarding a new contract to Tamaqua Transfer and Recycling Company, Inc.

The main reason is that the trash hauling company kept fees down, unchanged, in fact, from the previous year.

Bids for one, two and three years were opened at Monday's meeting and the board decided to vote 3-0 to award the low bidder, Tamaqua Transfer, a new 3-year contract at $287,256. Tamaqua Transfer of 244 E. Broad St., Tamaqua, also submitted a one-year bid for $93,455 and a two-year bid for $198,188.

Kline Township supervisors decided to go with the three-year contract and voted 3-0 after opening the final bid.

"We have to review the three-year contract but it seems unlikely we would have to increase any garbage fees," Chairman Carmen Cara said after a resident asked if the fees will be raised.

Other bids opened at the meeting included: Waste Management, Camp Hill, one-year $155,064; two years $310,128 and three years $465,192; J.P. Mascaro and Sons, Audubon, one year $157,324, two years $315,120 and three years $473,220.

Township settles roadwork dispute

Kline Township settled a dispute with Hazleton Site Contractors of Hazleton over some roadwork by the company. Hazleton Site agreed to take care of up to six questions related to a paving contract in the township.

In return, Kline Township agreed to release $5,931.30 in funds owed to Hazleton Site Contractors. The vote was 3-0.
